Savings On The Costs of Medicare Prescription Drugs In The Federal Inflation Deduction Act

For the first time, Medicare would be allowed to negotiate prices for prescription drugs.

Pharmacist and Woman Visitor discuss the drug information
Starting in 2023, Medicare $2,000 out-of-pocket cap for older adults.

Under the bill, Medicare would negotiate the cost of up to 10 retail drugs beginning in 2026. By 2029, Medicare's bargaining power would expand to 20 retail and 20 doctor-administered drugs. The bill would save the federal government an estimated $288 billion over the next decade.

Those savings would help offset the cost of implementing a $2,000 out-of-pocket cap for older adults. Medicare recipients also would have insulin prices capped at $35 a dose. That cap will not extend to Americans covered by private insurance plans.

The bill benefits people who must take expensive prescriptions for conditions such as cancer, stroke prevention, asthma and multiple sclerosis. An estimated 1.4 million Medicare recipients spent at least $2,000 on prescriptions in 2020, the most recent year with available data, according to a Kaiser Family Foundation analysis.

The bill also would decrease drug makers' ability to significantly hike prices and allow the negotiation of Prescription Drug prices for Medicare which exists with the Veterans Administration (VA). Starting as early as 2023, drug makers that increase prices above inflation levels would be required to pay rebates.

The legislative measure extends Affordable Care Act subsidies three more years through 2025 within the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace, providing valuable savings for uninsured or underinsured Americans ages 18-64 years old. The Federal ACA subsidies allows for less expensive health insurance coverage for lower and middle-income earners who directly purchase coverage on federal and state insurance exchanges.

As you can see, dental procedures can dig the pocketbook savings just a bit. MRW Solutions Group can assist with free consultations for Dental Insurance options with immediate coverage for major procedures like Root Canals, Crowns, Tooth Extractions, Deep Cleanings, Bridges, Dentures, Implants and more. According to a January 6, 2021, National Institutes of Health Study, "nearly half of respondents (46.7%) reported delaying going to the dentist or receiving dental care due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Among adults who reported delaying dental care due to the pandemic, 74.7% reported delaying a checkup, 12.4% reported delaying care to address something that was bothering them, and 10.5% reported delaying care to get planned treatment. As well, only about 44.4% of adults reported that they planned to visit the dentist within the next 3 mo. In the multivariable regression model, only living in an urban (vs. rural) area was associated with significantly higher odds of delayed dental care due to the pandemic." So let's make a vow to take care of your Dental Care for the remaining months of 2022. There are Dental Insurance options available for up to a $5000 Annual Maximum for your Dental Procedures that can keep your smile bright as well as protect your health. Delays in Dental Care can lead to health issues such as according to a CareQuest Institute for Oral Health 2022, journal study, "adults with periodontal disease (PD) have a 28% higher risk of suffering their first heart attack than those without this condition. Researchers report that treating PD in people with diabetes is “particularly important” because of the link between managing PD and improving diabetic patients’ ability to manage their blood sugar levels. Age increases someone’s risk for stroke, and people with PD have more than double the risk of a stroke resulting from posterior circulation disease."
